Jeg er i øjeblikket laver nogle forskning på strømforbruget af edb-systemer, og hvordan anbringelse stress på forskellige dele af disse systemer ændringer, forbrug. Holde sig for øje, at en klogere person end mig engang sagde "Hvorfor Anslå Når du kan måle" (en stor Arkitekturområdet princippet), besluttede jeg afhente en Kill A Watt. Så interessant som forskningsprojektet lyde, min nysgerrighed går det bedre for mig og jeg besluttede mig for at prøve mine skinnende nye legetøj på forskellige elektroniske enheder rundt omkring i kontoret. Jeg blev overrasket over nogle af de resultater (såvel som af staten af rotte's reden under mit skrivebord). Det største var, at hver enkelt oplader jeg kunne tænke på (batterioplader, mobiltelefon oplader, Nintendo DS oplader, trådløse mus, laptop, etc), gjorde 0 watt, når ingen enhed blev sluttet til den. Det er rigtigt, medmindre der var en anordning fastgjort, elforbrugsværdien var nul. Desværre er den nyhed ikke var så god til alt andet:
